All Together Now: Participatory Techniques for Community Engaged Learning
ABOUT THIS DECK
This is a card deck of educational techniques that can be used by practitioners of community-engaged learning (CEL) to advance student learning and reflection in CEL courses. CEL courses are dynamic by nature and take place in both classroom and community settings where students apply their academic learning to critical community needs. High quality CEL is characterized by continuous and intentionally-scaffolded educational techniques that bridge the classroom and community elements of a CEL course. This card deck will provide users with educational strategies for high impact CEL. The deck is designed as a portable tool for convenient use by facilitators in both classroom and community settings.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING
- I used your exercise “the mirror, the microscope, and the binoculars” as a closing reflection in two seminars this semester. It was fabulous! I haven’t tried many of the cards yet, but the ones I’ve tried have been so useful. A great way to shake up my teaching. - Aaron Bobrow-Strain, Professor and Baker Ferguson Chair of Politics and Leadership, Whitman College
- We learn better when we are actively engaged. The All Together Now deck combines inspiring images with well-crafted instructions for activities that make learning fun and enable everyone to participate. Whether you are a group facilitator or a classroom teacher, I highly recommend this wonderful tool! - Paula Manley, Paula Manley Consulting
- I have enjoyed using the card deck this term. I use a card almost every week in class. Some of the cards lend well to an online forum. - Alissa Leavitt, Senior Capstone Instructor, University Studies, Portland State University
